The Lion Makers: A Gentle Nature Tale

Embarking on a journey, three scholars who’ve read every book in the world reluctantly bring along their friend with common sense. But when, against his warnings, the three use book knowledge to bring a dead lion back to life and it gobbles them up, common sense wins out.

Told with character voices and music on 12-string guitar, this fable from Bhutan plainly says that no matter how many books you’ve read, it takes common sense to negotiate the real world. Bhutan is a tiny Himalayan kingdom near China and Tibet where the people practice Buddhism. In this story, the three scholars are called “brahmin.”
