The Crane Wife: Stories of Love

A sailmaker saves a white crane that transforms into a young woman who can weave magic sails. As she weaves them behind a screen she asks him never to look at her as she works. At first all is well, but the more money he sees, the more he wants. One day, he looks and makes a terrible mistake.

With haunting Japanese scales on Celtic harp, Odds Bodkin tells this folktale of magic, love and greed.

To create this version of The Crane Wife, Odds Bodkin has tuned his 37-string Celtic harp to a Japanese pentatonic scale to create the melody, adding glissandos for storm winds. The knocking door effect is made by striking the harp’s sounding board.
